Plus One- Part 1
by RogerGirl

As I get on the bus for my daily commute, I am feeling more down than usual.  I had just suffered through an insufferably long phone call with my mom.  I get along pretty well with my parents despite us living on opposite ends of the country, but at times she can be quite nagging.  Today she was telling me that my younger sister had gotten engaged and then she went on and on about why I don't have a girlfriend and when do I plan to settle down and get married.  Now, while I plan to get married eventually, at the moment I'm having much more fun as a bachelor.  In the past I've been in a couple long term relationships, but they both ended very badly.  For the time being I'm working at a gym and taking some college courses.  I'm not really the type of guy people would expect to be working at a gym, but as manager I mostly I just work at the desk and sign people up for memberships.

I make my way to the back of the bus and sit down in my usual spot.  Once I sit down, I take out my iPod and listen to music.  A few stops later, my friend Duncan gets on.  Duncan and I met when I first started taking classes.  He works at an office close to the campus and also manages an apartment building that his uncle owns.  He's a couple years older than I am, but we get along pretty well and have a lot of the same interests.  I turn off my music as he sits in the row of seats across the aisle from me.

"Hey Owen," he says as he sits down, "You catch the playoffs this weekend?"

"Yeah," I reply, "I still think the Knicks will win it this year."

"Nah, man," he responds, "This is the Clippers' year.  I can feel it."

We continue talking as the bus makes a few more stops and as we get onto the freeway.  We discuss our usual topics of sports and movies until I am interrupted by a text from my mom.

"Something wrong?" Duncan asks as I put my phone away.

"It's just my mom," I respond, "My sister is getting married and she's on me about finding a girlfriend and all that."

"I know how you feel," he says, "My cousin is getting married and my family is the same way."

"I just wish there was some way to get them off our backs," I continue.

"Maybe there is," Duncan replies, "Give me a call when your classes are over and we'll meet for lunch."

"OK," I say.

Our conversation returns to movies as we head down the freeway.  Eventually we get into the city and I say goodbye to Duncan as I get off the bus.  As the bus drives off, I wonder what Duncan has in mind.  I decide not to think about it and head off to class.  After finishing with my classes for the day, I called Duncan and met him for lunch at a burger place in town.  I found him at a booth in the corner and sat down across from him.  We ordered our food and after the waitress left he began to tell me his plan.

"This may sound a little weird," he begins, "but I think I have a solution to our problem.  If you're family is anything like mine, they aren't going to be satisfied with you just bringing a date to the wedding.  Tell me, does your mom follow your Facebook as closely as my mom does?"

"Yeah," I respond, "It's kind of embarrassing.  She's always posting photos of me, commenting on my wall, and sending requests to my friends."

"Well," he continues, "One of the tenants in my building knows this woman who makes guys over into girls.  I was thinking we could create fake relationships for each of us and play each other's girlfriends."

"I don't know," I say hesitantly, "Do you think we could really pull this off?"

"Yeah," Duncan replies, "We're not exactly the most muscular of guys.  With some makeup and prosthetics, I think we could make pretty hot chicks.  Just come with me to the makeover studio.  If we aren't passable, we'll just call the whole thing off."

"Fine," I respond.

The waitress comes over soon after with our food and after she leaves we tell each other the kind of women our families would like for us.  My mom raised my sister and me on her own after our dad ran out on us.  He died a few years later of a drug overdose and his family never kept in contact with us.  My mom has always been very independent and sort of a free spirit and hopes I find a strong woman with a bit of a wild side as my eventual wife.  She believes a couple should live together before getting married so that they can get to know each other better.  She and my father got married before really getting to know each other very well and she has always regretted it.

Duncan's family on the other hand is more serious minded.  Although they hope for him to find a wife who is financially successful and career minded, they believe a couple should wait until marriage to get married.  Duncan's parents both work and hired a nanny to raise him growing up.  To play the role of Duncan's girlfriend, I will need to somehow find a job in an office as Rowena.  Duncan's role will be a little easier since he can pretend to be a college student without actually enrolling at my college.  He has a vacant apartment in the building he is managing for his uncle and since his uncle never comes to check on the tenants I would be able to make it into Rowena's apartment.  In return, I would use my job at the gym to sign up Candace for a membership.  Both girls would also have been home schooled growing up and have parents who moved a lot to avoid any questions of high school friends and experiences.

After lunch we pay our bills and leave.  We agree to meet up on the weekend to get our makeovers.  If we look good enough to pass as real women, the next step would be to create lives for these new female identities and make friends.  It would seem a little strange if the only friends we have are each other.  Since the wedding dates hadn't been set yet, we have time to establish Candace and Rowena's lives before taking the next step of forming the relationships.  While all of this may sound like a lot of work, given our past relationships and the lack of women wanting to go out with us, this was still much easier.  Since we would only be pretending to be couples, the only kissing we would ever have to do would be kissing for show for Facebook pictures and later at the wedding.  Once the weddings were over we can break off the relationships since our families all lived far away.

That weekend we meet up and go to the makeover studio.  When we walk in, there were pictures on the wall of the owner's previous clients and a lot of them looked pretty hot.  We decide to make our meetings more realistic and not see each other as Candace or Rowena until it came time for us to officially meet.  I head home and Duncan goes in to get his makeover.  The next day I go in and get my makeover.  Surprisingly, I make a very hot woman.  This plan might actually work.
